The Magaliesberg Canopy Tour is located in the Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve, and is just a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Joburg and one hour’s drive from Pretoria.

The adventure tourism company is one of the longest-running ziplining businesses in Africa. It takes nature lovers, families and thrill seekers, as well as corporate teams and conference groups, on memorable adventures on the cliff and rock faces of the Ysterhout Kloof. Here, you will zigzag down the kloof from 11 platforms that are conjoined by long steel cables.

The canopy tours are structured in such a way that they can be enjoyed by people of almost all ages, from five right up to 85 years old. During the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to marvel at the gorgeous scenery, taking in the ecology and geology of one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world before sliding down the zipline to reach the next platform on your way down.

The Lion and Safari Park moved to a 600ha piece of land in the Cradle of Humankind in July 2016. Since then, it has established itself as an increasingly popular tourist attraction among local and international visitors alike. This world-class facility is a must-see for nature lovers who enjoy spending time outdoors and who have an appreciation for the diverse wildlife South Africa has within its borders.

Here, you can expect a wealth of fascinating activities to partake in, such as hand-feeding the world's tallest land animal – the giraffe. A river-rafting tour is also offered along the nearby Crocodile River. In addition, there are guided game drives as well as a predator tour in a secure game-viewing vehicle, taking you through the lion, wild dog and cheetah enclosures, where you will get an opportunity to learn more about these incredible animals.

After your tour, do some shopping on site at the Five-Dome Shopping Experience, for locally sourced African arts and crafts. You can also enjoy a meal at the Wetlands Restaurant and Bar, where the menu includes hamburgers, home-made pizza and halaal food.

For bookings, phone +27 (0)87 150 0100 or email info@lionpark.com.

If one or all of the above attractions and activities appeal to you, then this is your chance to use the long weekend to your advantage and visit some of these gems in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind for an unforgettable experience.
